2021 AL-ANON MEMBERSHIP SURVEY: Responses from a record-breaking 16,486 Al-Anon members have been tallied. We are grateful to the Al-Anon members who took the time to complete our fellowship's 13th membership survey. Members can now view results by visiting al-anon.org/surveyresults
2022-2025 Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual version one (1) [P-24/27] will be available electronically in English, French, and Spanish at al-anon.org this spring.
“Every Al-Anon and Alateen member is encouraged to actively use and study this Manual. It gives a clear and concise picture of the Al-Anon fellowship, its purpose and functions, and how it helps us to resolve group problems and maintain unity.” [2018-2021 Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual version two (2), page one]
Updates to the Manual will be noted with the use of vertical lines in the outer margins. The printed version will follow in late summer.
2022 WORLD SERVICE CONFERENCE (WSC): Each July, the Board of Trustees approves a theme for the upcoming year’s World Service Conference. The 2022 WSC will be held in Tarrytown, NY at the Westchester Marriott April 26 – 30. The Conference Leadership Team (CLT) recommended, and the Board approved that the theme for the 2022 WSC will be:
Enhancing Our Recovery through Abundance, Unity, and Understanding
Enriquecer nuestra recuperación a través de la abundancia, unidad y comprensión
Enrichir notre rétablissement par l’abondance, l’unité et la compréhension
LOVE GIFTS: The Conference Leadership Team (CLT) held a thoughtful discussion on January 7 regarding love gifts and Conference mail in light of the current realities of the pandemic. The CLT is mindful of the special nature of sharing love gifts from one's Area with other Conference members as well as personally receiving cards and letters of support from members in one's Area. Unfortunately, the concentration of love gifts in one place and the hosting of a physical mailbox encourages close contact between participants which contradicts health agency guidance regarding social distancing.
1
After much deliberation, the consensus of the CLT is that we will not accept any physical packages of love gifts at the hotel for distribution, and we will direct the hotel to not deliver any packages addressed to Conference members to our registration/hospitality area. In addition, we will not handle or distribute cards and letters of support by way of a hospitality room or other method.
THEREFOR: If your group or district would like to participate in the exchange of Love Gifts this year, please mail your package to my home address (see above) no later than April 15, 2022. A quantity of 100 Love Gifts is suggested per package.
ROAD TRIP! YOU AND YOUR BOARD CONNECT: The January COB Letter will be shared with delegates on February 12. It will contain updates about our bid to host the 2022 Road Trip event. I will share the results with the members of NCWSC once it is approved for distribution.
ELECTRONIC MEETING DISCUSSION: The non-Panel Area Assembly elected a Delegate. The next steps include the non-Panel Area submitting a request to the Conference Leadership Team (CLT) to join the World Service Conference Structure. From there, the CLT will consider the request, followed by a recommendation in the form of a motion by the Conference Chairperson to the Conference. Members of the 2022 Conference will vote on the motion the first morning of the Conference. Following approval by the Conference to admit the Area into the WSC Structure, the new Panel 62 Delegate will become a voting member of the 2022 Conference.
Since we last met in October, I have been doing the following:
COB PRESENTATION: The Board of Trustees is continuing a new service this year to facilitate a 1-hour presentation of the Chair of the Board of Trustees Letter (COB) with the delegates. The first quarter presentation will be held on February 12. I will share the first quarter COB letter with the members of NCWSC on groups.io once it is approved for distribution.
NCWSA: Part of my job as delegate is to visit each district at least once, during the 3-year Panel. Since we met last at the October Assembly, I have been visiting the following Districts.
DISTRICT VISITS: In late October, I visited District 7’s monthly speaker meeting to share ES&H in person. In December, I visited District 4 virtually to facilitate a workshop on the gifts of service followed by an hour of Q&A with members.
In late December, I visited District 17’s monthly speaker meeting virtually to share ES&H and answer questions on service.
In January I visited District 2’s monthly business meeting virtually to encourage members to consider standing for the DR position followed by an hour of Q&A with the members. It is my hope District 2 will elect a new DR this year.
In late January I visited District 9’s Winter Day in Al-Anon to share ES&H in person. Thank you to the members of District 7 and District 9 for hosting successful in-person events!
Please consider how you would like to have your delegate participate in your district business meeting, Day in Al-Anon or other service or recovery event. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Panel 61 Delegate. I am grateful to be in service with you!
With love in service,
John M. Delegate, Panel 61
